Biomedical Science? Science?
No physics practical lab today due to ANZAC Day tomorrow (and I will get 2 days holidays because of ANZAC day (wed)& Thursday is my off day).
I'm still doubt about choosing between science or biomedical science degree. Both of them have their own pros and cons. So I decided to go to Faculty of Science to enquire about the 2 different degree. It turns out that the student advisor didn't gave much information about biomedical science and science degree, but she roughly told me about the subjects I need to take for the next semester in order to change my science degree to biomedical science degree. Science degree is a flexible degree as we have more options and flexibility in choosing the subjects, however for biomedical science degree, the course structure was fixed (so as the subjects) and it was for those who already have their mind what to study for the next few years. The title of biomedical science seems to sound more advanced than science degree, and because the structure was fixed, i wouldn't need to think what subjects to take for next year.
Still confuse about it whether to choose which degree, so the student advisor decided to have a meeting with their faculty in order to give me a suitable and clear answer (i wonder they really will have a meeting to discuss about it...).
Due to the Melbourne Model which in 2008, the Bachelor of Biomedical Science will be phrase out. For more information, please visit http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/courses/melbmodel/

Building Evacuation
During our biology lecture, which was the first day of another section of chapter and new lecturer. He's 50+ years old i think, but he's quite funny, active and filled with passion in teaching the new chapter.
Unfortunately, we heard alarm buzzing the whole building. We had no idea what's happening, and some of us thought that was a sound effect of the teaching material... However the lecturer told us it was evacuation alarm buzzing. And again we thought it was just a emergency practice for the uni. We 'walked' out eventually. It was a good news for us because we could have extra hour of lunch, and I was hungry already...
A few hours later, I received an email from the university about the evacuation news:
Dear staff and students,
At approximately 10:30am this morning, Monday 23 April 2007, a gas leak was detected in the area around Professors' Walk on the Parkville campus, and the following buildings were evacuated as precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all staff and students:
Baillieu Library, Economics and Commerce, Genetics, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Howard Florey Institute, Brownless Medical Library, Medical Building, Music (partial evacuation), Babel building (partial evacuation).
All affected buildings have been declared safe to enter by the Incident Controller from the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade Andre-occupation commenced at approximately 12.45pm.
***ALL BUILDINGS ARE NOW ABLE TO BE OCCUPIED, AND ALL CLASSES CAN PROCEED AS NORMAL.***
The gas supply has been isolated and repair works commenced. Services to the affected buildings dependant upon the gas supply will be restored as soon as possible. The evacuation was a resounding success.
I would like to thank all staff and students who cooperated with the evacuation, especially the Building Emergency Controllers and Floor Wardens.
Regards,
Stefan Delaney
General Manager, Environment, Health & Safety
in the end, the lecturer had another session of lecture which was in the afternoon, and I skipped it :P Nevertheless I gotta do my own notes, refer to the text book, power point slides and the recording lecture from afternoon session. Home study?

Dissection of Rat
I had my Biology practical today, which was 'Dissection of Organ Systems'. Unfortunately our victim today was laboratory rat (as usual) and ready for us to be dissect. First part of the lab was a briefing about the legislation of animal's protection...mentioned about they're sacrificed for us for the purpose of education and research... blah blah blah... and everyone was so anxious to dissect the rat ^^
From my previous experience, that would be in Year 11 and Year 12, I had a dissection of a frog (which was alive) in secondary school. It was alive because we need to observe the function of the heart. Quite cruel actually, although it was chloroformed, we can still saw the pumping of heart... one of the frog even had eggs in it. Well, the main thing was... I almost faint out... My face was pale in colour... and scared almost everyone... However I wasn't really sure what's the reasons I faint out...
A few assumption was made:
- Haemophobia/hemophobia? (fear of blood)
- The effect of chloroform?
- The heavily stink smell of animals?
- Lack of food?
Well...I can't figured out... Even when i'm in college (year 12), there was a dissection of animal's kidneys... and again, my face and lips was pale... No idea what's going on...
And today, I somehow gotta fixed up what happened to me... Once the rat in my dissection tray, I kept telling myself not to faint,no worries, it's just an animal waited for me to 'explore' :P . OMG....It really stinks A LOT ! still nothing happen, and I was enjoying to cutting and poking it. Drawing of the internal organ systems were part of the lab report. In the end, IT WAS REALLY FUN !
Help Me~
All organs were spread out, smelly >.<

Sick of study? yeah.... it seems never gonna finish study all the subjects.. but luckily my mid-sem test was already past, and i don't want to look on it.... not even to know the results...
Finish everything, and i'm going to the city to have a walk.

Relief?
Finally... Mid-semester test had finally over !
Am I a last minute people? I'm not sure, but it worked sometimes for me...
Studied for 3 days with 3 subjects (math, physics and biology), math was ok, biology was a bit tough, but i still not really satisfied with the result. but for physics I'm completely blank, tried so hard to concentrate but in the end, frustration and tired, I just close the book and ignore it... and today... although it's really hard for me... but I didn't feel bad and guilty :P
Am I crazy? I'm not sure again...
Relief? I don't think so...

HOWEVER....
- Before the holidays, I had made a plan for study for the upcoming mid-semester test.
- Maybe one of the day I need to go back to uni for group study/self-study, cause i need some resource from the library.
- Reorganize my notes and files.
- Do some research for my upcoming experiments.
and all the plans were down to the drain, washed far away... who to blame? NOT ME :P
Arg.... gotta start study now... whole stack of books waiting for me to date with >.<

iPod Nano
iPod Nano !! Recently this thing just hanging around in my mind, trying to seduce me to purchase it... I still thinking about it, about the price, colours, the storage of music.... iPod nano -
A thinner design. Five stylish colours. A brighter display. Up to 24 hours of battery life. Just about the only thing that hasn’t changed is the name. In 2GB, 4GB and 8GB models starting at $219 RRP inc GST, iPod nano puts up to 2,000 songs in your pocket.
Well... I was thinking to get 2GB (which is quite enough for approximately 500 songs), the basic price was AUD$219 (i think convert approximately RM613-RM630), and the colour is was silver colour (that's the only colour available for 2GB).
Should i buy it? !!!

Hot Easter break

Easter holiday !
Yeah, at last Easter holiday had finally arrived in the right time. I really need a break for my mentally healing due to the stress and torturing from the books... Gosh, first year in uni seems to be so tough... and i thought that it would be easy and relax >.<
Talk about Easter holiday.... This day seems to be a big important day for western peoples, especially Christians. There will be one week holidays for me, starting today (Good Friday) onwards until 14th April... and then.... mid-semester test...
Easter, the Sunday of the Resurrection, Pascha, or Resurrection Day, is the most important religious feast of the Christian liturgical year, observed at some point between late March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity). It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which his followers believe occurred on the third day after his death by crucifixion some time in the period AD 7 to 33 (see Good Friday).

I need a break
It's already week 6 in the University of Melbourne. Time passed so fast, which i didn't realised at all... I'm living in Melbourne for almost 3 months, GOSH, I'M STILL SURVIVED !!!
These few days i felt so tired...restless...exhausted... Workloads were adding non-stop, it's like never ending homework... Knowledge and information were stuffing into my brain, everyday new things was trying to analyse, process and stored in the memory brain. Sometimes I don't even know what's the lecturer talking about, and I become so blur and frustrated... It seems that I gotta study myself, or spend my every one hour lunch break in tutorials/learning centre to consult and ask questions about the lectures. Sometimes I didn't even had my lunch, fasting from 9am to 5pm... Getting so crazy nowadays...
I just need a break... and I'm looking forward to the Easter break (Oh no....reminds me that after the break I will have Mid term test... >.< )
