Daylight saving over

This is the first time I experience this Daylight saving thing... It only happened in certain regions of the world, which included Australia. I'm not sure so sure about the purpose of the daylight saving stuff, but i knew some that the daylight saving system was used to increase/maximize the daytime activities especially during the summer. Further explanation about time? Well in summer of Australia, the difference time between Malaysia and Australia would be 3 hours (eg. MY-8pm , AUS-11pm). After the daylight saving over, the difference time zone would be only 2 hours (eg. MY-8pm, AUS-10pm).
